Update on WAG Happenings
July 16, 2014
Wagner Area Growth (WAG) is definitely keeping busy. We have a few different grant applications in the works—one to add to our revolving loan fund, another to help support the corporation’s budget, a third to help us finance a monthly local entrepreneur “happy hour” of some sort, and the last to cover half the cost of the new visitor’s guide we are working on with the city.
Watch for a for sale sign to go up next month on WAG’s commercial lots east of town next to KPOD. The 17 acres’ asking price is $34,000 and will only be sold to those looking to use it for commercial purposes.
WAG is excited to see and encourage different businesses in moving forward with growth and expansion. Specifically, a retail store on Main Street that may be moving to a larger building, an industrial storefront that will be opening on Highway 46 within the next year or so, and a grand opening that is planned for August 1 for both The Cake Lady and Katie Swatek Photography.
A local citizen approached me stating it would be nice to have a city map to provide to out of town customers that details what businesses are available. We started working on their idea immediately and hope to have these maps published as early as the middle of August. If anyone would like copies, please let me know!
The most exciting project we have going on is the GROW South Dakota Home Improvement program. If an individual makes less, annually, than $31,900 (family of 1-2) or $36,680 (family of 3+) and have a home in need of some work, GROW South Dakota can fix one major repair in the home (shingles, new windows, new plumbing, etc). Some guidelines are that you must own the home, the home must be your primary residence, and manufactured homes are not considered. If you or someone you know meets these guidelines, please give me a call so we can get an application going before the spots are all filled up!
If you haven’t already, please go online and like our Facebook page—it will keep you updated as to what grants are available, any volunteer opportunities, and news on the entrepreneurs and development in our community. As always, if anyone has any questions, comments, or concerns, please contact me at the number below.
