Great Conversations Lead to Great Ideas
July 29, 2014
I had some great conversations this week regarding a few realms of economic development. First off, Dave Barz of Northwest Veterinary Supply in Parkston has a couple of job openings that he would like to spread the word about. Dave informed me that “the Wagner office has shown good increases in both sales and service,” which obviously excites me as the area’s agriculture is a main driver of our local economy. Dave acknowledged the reputation the veterinary clinic has had for overextending their employees in the past, and explained to me how he has reorganized the management of the facility to facilitate a positive work environment. “In the past we required a high degree of multitasking, but the new scenario will allow more specific job descriptions.” That being said, Dave is looking for a front desk employee as well as a veterinary assistant. “We offer competitive wages and pay full health insurance after two month probationary period.” Stop in to the clinic to apply for either position.
Wagner Community School is also accepting applications to fill the Assistant Technology position. The salary would be dependent upon qualifications ($15/hour minimum), but includes health and dental insurance, retirement, and personal/vacation/sick leave. Contact Lind a Foos, Superintendent at Wagner Community School, for more information.
As a member of the P.E.O. sisterhood in Wagner, I attended the fellowship feast held at the Methodist church on Thursday, July 24 and came away with some great ideas of ways to help our area. I especially look forward to helping the Pickstown Community Fund, Inc. reach the goals they have set for themselves.
Progress has been made on opening a welding shop in town, as well as helping a Main Street shop expand inventory and move into a larger building.
As always, if anyone ever has ideas or comments please feel free to give me a call or shoot me an e-mail!
