“Intent to Apply” for Dakota Rising Fellowship is now open!
October 20, 2014
April, 2014: Together, Yankton Sioux Tribe and Wagner Area Growth applied for and were selected as the newest site in Dakota Rising, which is a program to assist communities improve the atmosphere supporting entrepreneurship. Our site, called Southern Charles Mix Dakota Rising, is working to connect with entrepreneurs in all of Charles Mix south of 290th Street (including Greenwood, Pickstown, Lake Andes, Ravinia, Marty, Wagner, and Dante). A community gathering was put on to introduce the program to the community. Nearly 100 residents of our area attended and learned about the opportunities our entrepreneurs now have within the program.
One such opportunity is the Dakota Rising Fellowship, which is a three-year program for entrepreneurs who are ready to grow their business. The Dakota Rising Fellowship is aimed to help that are profit-earning and ready to take their business to the next level of growth. After completing the application process and being chosen, Fellows get the opportunity to experience a deep level of peer-to-peer interaction with like-minded business owners across the state. Not only is this education and mentorship provided to Fellows, but at the end of the first year of the program each Fellow is awarded $10,000 to put towards their professional growth and business expansion.
Currently, the “Intent to Apply” is open and ready for entrepreneurs who are thinking about applying for the Fellowship. As Site Coordinator, it is my job to help said entrepreneurs prepare an application and answer any and all questions regarding the Fellowship. Having been part of two Dakota Rising conventions with the five other sites, I have met the men and women who have been chosen for the Fellowship and absolutely cannot wait for our area’s entrepreneur’s to interact with these people to grow their businesses.
If you or anyone you know might be interested in the Fellowship please give me a call and let’s get going on your application. If you are unfamiliar and still have questions, let’s set a meeting so I can show you the amazing advantage of being a Dakota Rising Fellow! Below are just a few of the testimonials from alumni Fellows that have gone through the process.
“I always thought I had a high chance of success in my businesses. What Dakota Rising did was help me grow faster and further than I ever would have dreamed in a very short time.” –Fellow CHRIS MALO, Black Hills Urethane
“Dakota Rising works because of the relationships that are created and the interaction, the sharing, the caring, the motivating, and the accountability. All of which are hard to find in your regular day to day work.” –Fellow MARK STEIN, ESCO Manufacturing/Stein Signs
“The Dakota Rising application process attracted me as much as the cash award. Even if I had not been selected as a Fellow, I knew that I had already gained the valuable experience of creating a business plan. I feel like I am sometimes an island and having a network of support was very attractive.” –Fellow DEE SLEEP, Chicken Creek Communications
