Hello Wagner! Sitting here at the Farm, Home, Garden and Sports show and WOW—hearing your feedback and ideas has made sitting at this booth for 8 hours in 4 inch heels well worth it! Thank you all for your support of the growth of Wagner.
Now, back to business. Wagner Area Growth, in conjunction with Mitchell Technical Institute and Wagner Community School, will be hosting a welding training course for a very low cost! The 40 hour course will start Monday, April 13th and will run every Monday and Wednesday from 5-9pm. Cost for the course is $1,450, which includes cost for the certification test.
Now, after the dozens of conversations I have had with interested individuals over the past two weeks, people are thinking this sounds steep…and it is a lot of money, but in the grand scheme of things it is SO FEASIBLE! Once you have your certification, the average welder in South Dakota receives a wage of $15.99/hour (this is probably a little higher than a welder in our area would make, so let’s say $13.00/hour to be safe). In order to pay for the course, you would need to work approximately 115 hours. That is less than three weeks of work…. Need I say more?
Fort Randall Federal Credit Union is two booths down from mine at the fair today, so I waved Julie Thompson over to see what the chances are that someone could get a short term loan to take this course. She referred to several different scenarios where this would be possible, depending on the individual’s credit and collateral available. [For reference, Fort Randall Federal Credit Union’s phone number is 384-5332.]
So, point of my column this week is to get the word out about this course, and to explain how it is possible for somebody without a cent in their pocket to create a future for themselves. Let Wagner Area Growth help you! And, if there are individuals out there interested in helping qualified individuals through the course, let’s talk.
